AWEA's Bode: Wind power benefits Alaska

Cook Inlet Region Inc.'s Fire Island Wind Project is the latest among Alaskan wind projects that would help the state lock in power prices over the long term and reduce its reliance on costly diesel-powered plants, according to American Wind Energy Association CEO Denise Bode. "As the power purchase agreement for the Fire Island project indicates, one of wind's main attractions to utilities in Alaska and elsewhere is its ability to offer a guaranteed flat rate price over the long term," Bode writes. "Since wind uses zero fuel, it insulates consumers from volatility in fuel and energy costs."
