Health, weight problems cost $153B in lost productivity

A Gallup-Healthways study found the 86% of U.S. workers who have health or weight problems or both will miss about 450 million extra days of work each year, costing more than $153 billion in lost productivity. The study was based on interviews with nearly 110,000 full-time employees and found 30% of workers were overweight and had one or two chronic health issues, while 18% were overweight and had three or more chronic health conditions.
