Study finds autism is more prevalent among preemies

The risk of autism among children born prematurely is five times higher compared with those born at full term, a study in Pediatrics found. The study didn't show that premature birth causes autism, but lead researcher Jennifer Pinto-Martin said that prematurity increases the risk of brain injury among babies, perhaps increasing the risk for autism.
