Mobile app helps screen amputees for fitting prostheses

A smartphone application dubbed Ascent enabled health workers and volunteers to screen nearly 100 amputees for prosthesis fitting in the Philippine community of Digos City. The mobile app transmits the amputee’s profile and photograph to a website where volunteer physicians access the information and give real-time evaluation and advice to patients. The app has been used in missions throughout the Philippines since its introduction in 2009.
