Federal government's Connect facilitates HIE

The Federal Health Architecture, a unit of the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT, three years ago started working on Connect, an open-source system to enable efficient and secure data sharing among public agencies and providers. "The goal of Connect was not simply to define standards for exchanging medical information but to create the actual software necessary for federal agencies to start sharing that information securely and efficiently," Connect's interim director, Dr. Douglas Fridsma, said.
