Fast-track nursing programs increase as shortage deepens

A number of schools and nursing hospitals are offering "fast-track programs" to get registered nurses out into the work force, sometimes with only a year or so of specialized training. As the nursing shortage in the nation deepens, the programs are growing: While there were only 40 in 1991, there are now more than 200.
