Fare war erupts from Southwest airfare sale

What began as a 72-hour fare sale by Southwest Airlines grew into an aggressive contest among discount airlines at McCarran International Airport in Nevada. Southwest's initial offer ending at midnight Thursday included fares as low as $35 for flights under 451 miles. However, after JetBlue Airways and Spirit Airlines came out with their own fare drops, fares have dropped to as low as $70 for a round trip to Southern California and $32 for one-way flights.
