High blood pressure during pregnancy ups risk of birth defects

A study in BMJ found that the risk of having babies with birth abnormalities, particularly neural tube defects and heart malformations, was higher among women with high blood pressure during pregnancy, regardless of the type or use of treatment. The findings were based on 465,754 pairs of mothers and babies from 1995 to 2008.
