Regulators to evaluate federal spectrum for broadband suitability

The National Telecommunications and Information Administration -- a division of the Commerce Department -- has singled out 11 blocks of government-held wireless spectrum totaling about 1,500 MHz that it plans to evaluate to determine its suitability for broadband access. The NTIA identified the spectrum in its Second Interim Progress Report, which monitors the progress of a federal plan to free up 500MHz of wireless spectrum over 10 years to boost the nation's broadband capacity.
