Blue-ribbon panel has yet to find solution for used-fuel storage

The federal blue-ribbon commission has yet to determine used nuclear fuel storage alternatives to the Yucca Mountain project in Nevada after two years of studies, said Gary Hollis, chairman of the Nye County Commission in the state. "It doesn't matter how one views the recommendations of the blue-ribbon commission, or how the recommendations are packaged, no better solution has been found and there is no silver bullet," he said. The blue-ribbon panel should have at least proposed the completion of licensing studies for Yucca Mountain, Hollis added.
