Pakistani professionals urge power back-up for blood banks, labs

Hematologists and pathologists in Pakistan are calling for a mandatory provision that would put in place an alternative supply of electricity for all blood banks and laboratories in the country. "Banks could be at high risk to cause transfusion of stale blood as power run refrigerators stop functioning for hours with every possibility of stored whole blood and its components being infected," one hematologist said.
