Whole Foods advances no-check policy in North Carolina

The five Whole Foods Market stores in the Research Triangle area of North Carolina stopped accepting checks as payment, a policy already adopted by most other stores in the chain, a spokeswoman said. While she said Whole Foods is following a trend, an official with the National Retail Federation said checks and cash are actually preferred by most retailers because they don't have swipe fees.
