Pentagon expands base in Africa

The Pentagon is increasing its spending in Africa in response to the rising threat of Islamist terrorism in the region. The main American base in the area, Camp Lemonnier in Djibouti, is being expanded to better handle threats in Somalia, Yemen and the North Africa region. "Africa is front and center now for the Pentagon, so that means Lemonnier is front and center," said the Pentagon's former counterterrorism director for Africa, Rudolph Atallah.
