Why women are left out of the tech sector

Zulily, a fast-growing online business, has just one woman on its board, but the company is hardly alone in the male-dominated tech industry, writes Emily Parkhurst. The gender gap in tech may be caused by factors such as lingering sexism and the tendency for women to choose career paths that are based around soft skills, Parkhurst writes. "[I]f we are to achieve the highest performance possible, we should make it natural for women leaders to be promoted at every level of an organization," said Mary Jesse, CEO of IvyCorp, which has a board that is half women.
