ASCE honors Australian water pipeline as world landmark

The American Society of Civil Engineers honored a water pipeline in Australia with world engineering landmark status. The 351-mile-long pipeline was built 107 years ago by engineer C.Y. O'Connor, who committed suicide after the project was harshly criticized in the media. When completed, the pipeline from Perth to the West Australian Goldfields was the longest freshwater pipeline in the world.
