OG&E of Oklahoma City was able to complete a five-year smart grid project in three years with the help of extensive planning and $130 million in federal stimulus grants, Jesse Berst writes. Objectives of the utility's project included providing "digital-grade" electrical power, optimizing asset utilization and energy efficiency, improving system resilience against attacks or natural disasters, and empowering new products and services, he notes.
