Leverage ratio has drawbacks, German central banker says

Using a simple leverage ratio to determine required capital comes with risk, despite being an easier measure, Bundesbank Vice President Sabine Lautenschlaeger says. "The leverage ratio has its own deficiencies," she said. "It punishes low-risk business models, and it favours high-risk businesses, encouraging banks to engage in more risk taking."
