Elderly U.K. woman dies after bruising her leg

A 77-year-old woman died of sepsis after being treated for a bruise on her calf. Surgeons drained the hematoma and cleaned and dressed the wound but postponed a second surgery after the wound became infected because they were concerned it would be too risky. The patient had heart disease and hypertension and was taking blood thinners.
