Pentagon awards $13.5M contract to develop stronger antibiotics

The Pentagon's Defense Threat Reduction Agency awarded Anacor Pharmaceuticals a $13.5 million contract to develop new classes of systemic antibiotics. Anacor, in collaboration with the University of California, Berkeley, and Colorado State University, will use its boron chemistry expertise to discover new antibiotics that target the agency's list of priority drug-resistant pathogens.
