The percentage of Americans with dental insurance increased to 60% at the end of 2012, with more than 187 million Americans having coverage, according to a report from the National Association of Dental Plans and the Delta Dental Plans Association. "The recent launch of the state and federally facilitated exchanges provides an additional avenue to expand dental coverage in future years," said NADP Executive Director Evelyn Ireland. Preferred provider organizations accounted for 78% of all commercial dental benefits, and 99.5% of dental coverage is provided through a separate plan from medical benefits.
