America's telegraph network turns 150

The U.S. transcontinental telegraphy system is 150 years old today. Experts say the network helped shape the U.S.'s national identity, and note that telegrams bore a striking similarity to modern tweets. "It really gives one a good understanding of how we got where we are and how the Internet evolved. The telegraph is really where it all started," historian Thomas Jepsen says.
