Weakness is cited in popular XML encryption format

German researchers say they've uncovered a vulnerability in a security protocol used by companies such as IBM, Red Hat and Microsoft to encrypt Web-based communications. The exploit targets the cipher block chaining mode in communication that uses XML encryption, making it possible to breach sensitive corporate information. The scientists are calling on the World Wide Web Consortium to update the protocol.
