New York City could ban food waste

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg is declaring war on food waste, with a bill expected to be introduced that would ban large organizations from disposing of leftover food in the city's landfills. That would require hospitals, hotels and other large producers to recycle or compost their waste, reducing landfill methane emissions and saving New York taxpayers about $100 million a year.
