Report finds need to improve 8th-grade math, science achievement in U.S.

Eighth-grade students in more than half of the nation's states scored higher than average on math and science tests. However, the study -- by the National Center for Education Statistics, the research section of the federal Department of Education -- also finds the U.S. still trails internationally behind countries including Taiwan, South Korea and Singapore.
