Social Security coverage for same-sex couples moving slowly

The Social Security Administration is moving slowly in sorting out implications of the U.S. Supreme Court's decision invalidating parts of the Defense of Marriage Act, according to this article. The sticking point relates to couples who married in jurisdictions recognizing same-sex marriage, but who reside in jurisdictions that don't. The writer says the administration is advising these couples to apply for benefits, which will be paid retroactively if they're found to be eligible.
