U.S. senator seeks to protect students' data

Sen. Edward Markey, D-Mass., has sent a letter to Education Secretary Arne Duncan to ask questions about the process of collecting and managing student data by schools. Markey questions whether changes to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act open up schools to sharing students' data without approval from their parents. He also raises concerns about private companies managing the data.
