Case: Publicly traded REITs deliver on capital appreciation too

Capital appreciation -- an important investment criteria along with income flow -- has been missing from private real estate and private-equity real estate funds, NAREIT's Brad Case writes. Since 1978, average property appreciation for core funds was 0%. Share price appreciation of publicly traded REITs, by contrast, averaged 4.21% per year.
