After a century, IBM chooses its first woman CEO

IBM has selected Virginia Rometty to take over after CEO Sam Palmisano steps down. Rometty, who heads IBM's sales and marketing efforts, helped the company to set up its business services division and focus on high-margin software rather than hardware. The move means that as of Jan. 1, 18 Fortune 500 companies will have chief executives who are women.
