Animating geospatial data can bring the stories behind that data to life, writes Andy Kirk. When data are plotted on a map that shows changes over time, the data can be used to examine trends such as the historical growth of newspapers across the U.S. Interactive features can also help users find their own stories in the data, Kirk notes.
