Microsoft could double Western Europe smartphone share

Microsoft is well placed to become Europe's third-leading smartphone platform, with one prediction that it's likely to double its market share from 6% this year to 12% in 2012. But challenges remain for Microsoft, says Strategy Analytics director Neil Mawston, "including its limited support for high-growth dual-core superphones, the relatively modest size of its Marketplace apps store and a consumer brand perception of Windows Phone that may have been tainted."
