Online project inspires math lesson for eighth-graders

Eighth-grade math teacher Marsha Ratzel in this blog post shares how she used a project posted at Estimation 180 to teach her students about estimating through exploration. The problem, in this case, was guessing how many diapers were in a package. Students, who were allowed to work as a group on the classroom's two laptops, soon found out the problem had no "Google-able" answer and had to commence making educated estimates.
