BIO appeals local drug take-back law in Calif.

BIO and the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America appealed a federal court decision upholding an Alameda County, Calif., law that requires drugmakers to fund take-back programs for medications. The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals is set to hear the appeal in April, PhRMA Communications Director Liz Magsig said. PhRMA, BIO and the Generic Pharmaceutical Association have said the drug industry is being asked to go beyond its core business and extend into a mix of local law enforcement and waste disposal.
