HIMSS, WEDI report urges careful testing ahead of ICD-10 transition

A report by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society and Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange revealed ICD-10 coding was accurate 63% of the time under a pilot project. Coding speed was reduced by half under the new system, according to the report, which emphasized the need for extensive testing ahead of implementation of the new codes.
