More than 10% of S&P 500 companies have zero effective tax rate

Among global corporate giants in the Standard & Poor's 500 index, 57 have had an effective tax rate of zero in past 12 months, according to an analysis by USA Today. The Government Accountability Office says that in 2010, the average effective tax rate for U.S. corporations was 12.6%.
