NRF is supporting a bill sponsored by Rep. Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., that seeks to curb frivolous lawsuits by so-called patent trolls, companies that own patents with the sole aim of making money through patent infringement claims and settlements. "Patent trolls are increasingly targeting chain restaurants and retailers. Traditional brick-and-mortar merchants and ecommerce companies alike have had to deal with a growing number of patent troll lawsuits over the last few years," said David French, NRF's vice president for government affairs.
