Social Security helps less affluent maintain income in retirement

Recent research shows that Social Security benefits are helping make sure that households with low incomes don't experience significant reductions in income after the traditional retirement age of 65, writes Nevin Adams, director of Education and External Relations at the Employee Benefit Research Institute. "This is not to suggest that the lower-income households were 'well-off' after age 65," he notes.
