If you're struggling to solve a thorny problem, it can be worth seeking advice from people who work in different domains, says Harvard Business School Professor Karim Lakhani. He points to a toothpaste company that solved a manufacturing problem that had stumped chemists and engineers by seeking the advice of a physicist. "Big innovation most often happens when an outsider who may be far away from the surface of the problem reframes the problem in a way that unlocks the solution," Lakhani says.
