Xcel Energy says new wind power PPAs are good deals for customers

The recent wind power supply deals entered into by Xcel Energy will cost the utility about $25 to $35 per megawatt hour over 20 years, which translates to about $800 million in fuel cost savings for ratepayers, said President and CEO Ben Fowke. The additional wind power will also drive down capacity and environmental expenditures, Fowke said. "These prices are so compelling, the energy [cost] associated with it is less than you can do locking in a 20-year gas strip," he added.
