Once-sleepy Santiago, Chile, wakes up

Pablo Neruda, the Nobel Prize-winning poet, described his hometown of Santiago, Chile, as being "asleep for eternity." Not long ago, most travelers would have agreed. But Santiago, which is located between the sea and the Andes mountains, has come to life as a city full of interesting contrasts. From the "Sanhattan" financial district to the renovated Beaux-Arts neighborhoods, Santiago has become more than a stopover on the way to adventure.
