People avoid hand-washing despite germ phobia, research suggests

As little as 10% of people in the U.K. actually wash their hands after using the bathroom, even though 95% of people say they do, according to a recent study by two London universities. One researcher theorizes that people are so subconsciously disgusted by the prospect of germs, they forgo washing their hands to avoid having to touch more surfaces in public bathrooms.
