Women now have more choices for treating uterine fibroids

Hysterectomy no longer is the only choice for women with uterine fibroids, as newer, less invasive procedures offer quicker recovery times and can preserve fertility. Myomectomy allows for the removal of the fibroids while preserving the uterus, and uterine artery embolization works by blocking the blood supply, causing fibroids to shrink. MRI-guided ultrasound focuses a beam that zaps fibroids away, and new drugs now in development may be able to shrink fibroids without inducing menopause.
