When making customer-service decisions, it's important to recognize that your customers' time is valuable to them, Margaret Heffernan writes. If you request feedback from your customers, such as by giving them a survey to fill out, give them some kind of reward for their troubles. Also, make sure your e-mails have substance to them and apologize if you haven't been able to resolve an issue, she writes.
