Consumer group: FDA must ban Avandia because of health risks

Public Citizen, a consumer-advocacy group, called on the FDA to ban GlaxoSmithKline's Avandia because of life-endangering risks, including heart attack and liver failure, linked to the diabetes drug. The agency said it will "carefully review" the petition, which comes after the American Diabetes Association issued revised treatment guidelines that advise against Avandia.
