Miss. insurance commissioner clears State Farm of Katrina law violations

Mississippi Insurance Commissioner Mike Chaney has concluded following an investigation that State Farm was involved in "questionable decisions and irregularities" in handling claims from Hurricane Katrina but found no evidence of systematic insurance fraud by the insurer. Last year, State Farm agreed to open all "slab" cases through a program monitored by the insurance department. That program resulted in State Farm paying policyholders an additional $88 million.
