Experts emphasize need to retain health IT workers

The demand for health IT workers is expected to grow 20% a year through 2018, but the applicant pool is rapidly declining. This highlights the need to retain existing IT staffers, Steven Bennett of Kirby Partners told CIOs at the 2011 CHIME Fall Forum on Thursday. CIOs need to give IT staffers a work environment that they can enjoy, fair compensation and patient care involvement, added Ascension Health exec Tim Stettheimer, citing a Kirby Partners survey.
