IBM aims for end-user applications with new M&A strategy

IBM plans to begin acquiring software firms aimed at the applications space, executives say. The computing giant says its acquisition strategy will focus in part on solutions such as business-to-business social media platforms and cloud computing. Observers say the shift by IBM is an effort to keep pace with rivals such as Hewlett-Packard and Oracle in the end-user software market.
