Politicians, Scientists Express Growing Concern Over Food Safety

The nation's food supply is a potential target for terrorists, according to politicians and scientists, who say a possible attack could disrupt agriculture and devastate the nation's economy. Areas of concern include livestock and crops that could be infected by a foot-and-mouth disease epidemic or a plant disease. Food safety experts say processed and packaged foods are of less concern since processing and high-tech packaging keep microbes to a minimum.
