EU food agency clears 2 varieties of biotech corn

The European Food Safety Authority has approved Syngenta's Bt-11 corn seed and the 1507 corn from Pioneer Hi-Bred and Dow AgroSciences. EFSA declared in 2005 that both insect-tolerant crops were safe for consumption, but the European Commission resubmitted them for testing in May because of concerns from some groups about their effects on human health and the environment.
