Co-infection with multiple influenza strains could cause next pandemic

Researchers have documented cases of people infected with both H1N1, also known as swine-origin influenza, and seasonal flu at the same time. This raises concerns that the highly pathogenic avian influenza, H5N1, could mix with another flu strain to create a new virus that is both deadly and readily spread.
