Grainger acts to outflank Amazon in supplier market

W.W. Grainger now gets one-third of sales through the Web, says CEO Jim Ryan, and those generate higher margins than offline sales. The company, which has the largest share of the fractured U.S. business supplies market, continues efforts to expand as players such as Amazon emerge. "We're still very much on the front end of the consolidation," Ryan said.
